ArchVision
Content Manager
Understanding the ACM
What is the ACM?
The ArchVision Content Manager (ACM)
manages RPC Content and also provides licensing information.
Therefore, users with large networks do not need to authorize all of
their RPC Plug-ins. It will no longer be necessary to configure
paths to RPC Content on each machine on the network. The ACM's
functionality will increase in the future providing ArchVision's
users with new ways to easily purchase, manage and control their
content. The ACM was developed to reduce the amount of configuration
necessary for the user and serve as the ultimate content management
tool. The following document will explain the basics of using the
ACM and the correct method of implementation.
Installing the ACM
It is recommended that the ACM be
installed onto a network server, where the RPC Content resides.
However, the ACM can be installed onto any computer with internet
access. Internet access is needed because it allows the ACM to
connect to the user's account at www.archvision.com. ArchVision user
accounts store all licenses purchased while logged into that
particular account. For this reason it is important that ACM
administration be performed through the purchasing account, so that
all licenses purchased by a company are available to the ACM. During
the installation process, it will be necessary to register the ACM.
The ACM should be registered using the e-mail address and password
used by the ArchVision account where RPC Content and Licenses
reside. Please verify this information before installing the ACM.
Account information is available under the Account's Order
History.

Website Integration
The ACM is a direct connection to the
user account at www.archvision.com. Each ACM installed has it's own
unique ID number. This number can be viewed under the Licenses Tab
of the ACM. Additional information about the ACM is located at
www.archvision.com by clicking on the Content/License Manager
(ACM) link. This link will take you to the Content Manager
License Center
The Content Manager License Center
There are two options available at the
Content Manager License Center, License Summary and Available
Content. License Summary shows an overview of the user's license
history. This reveals which licenses were imported and exported on
which date. This also shows which Content Manager performed the
import or export. The Available Content option allows users to view
and assign all RPC Content that has not been assigned to a Content
Manager. Licenses are available to all ACMs assigned to the account.
When submitting a license, it is possible to choose which ACM the
Content will be assigned to.
License Creation and Transportation
When a user places an order at
www.archvision.com a license is generated and then made available to
the default ACM. After an import is processed, the license is
transferred to the selected ACM. This license is not available to
any other ACMs, unless it is exported to another ACM ID number
through the export process. If a user exports a license to another
ACM ID number, it can only be imported by that particular ACM. To
obtain the exported license, it is necessary for the user to perform
and import. This is all possible thanks to the License Tracking
Server, which silently records all transfer information to protect
the user's license, and stores it in the user's account in the
License Summary .
Creating Paths to RPC Content
Once installed, the first step is to
configure a path to the RPC Content.
To Configure a Path:
- 1. Select the Paths Tab of the
ACM
- 2. Select Add Path then browse
to the location of the RPCs and select OK.
- 3. Select Scan Paths.
4. Verify all available RPC Content
located when the path was scanned.

RPC Plug-ins Developed for the ACM
The ACM is merely an Electronic
Download facilitator without the RPC Plug-ins developed for the ACM.
RPC Plug-ins version 3.6 or higher are integrated with ACM
technology. This reduces the work for the user's IT department and
expands the possibilities for creating projects, naming and labeling
RPC Content. Once RPC 3.6.x is installed into an application, it is
ready to connect to the ACM. The only configuration necessary is to
specify a path to the running ACM.
Configuring a Path to the ACM
To Configure a Path from the
RPC Plug-in used in an RPC compatible application to the ACM:
- Select Configure Content to
open the RPC Content Configuration Dialog
- Click on the Update Tab.
- If other users will be
accessing the ACM, select Network. If multiple users will be
connecting, a Server is recommended. UNC naming should be used
for configuring a network path. A network path with UNC naming
should look something like this: \\ServerName Mapped drives
(x:\sharedfolder) should not be used. All RPC Content should be
placed into a directory that all computers with RPC Plug-ins can
access.
or
Select Local if the ACM is running on the same computer and will
only be used by one local user. The file to browse for if the
ACM is configured locally is rpcacmapp.exe. This is not to be
browsed for if the Network option is selected.
- Finally, select Update Content
and all Content available in the paths of the ACM will now be
available for use in the application.
Note: If the paths need to be rescanned because of added
content or path changes select Force the ACM to rescan its
paths prior to selecting Update Content.
